Trends has nominated three companies per district who excel in innovation, sustainable management and export. Kim’s Chocolates won in the export category.
“Export is very important for us,” Fons Maex, the company’s chief executive, says. “Since the start of our company in 1987, we’ve put our focus immediately abroad, because the Belgian market was already full. As new entrant, you would have less opportunities in that market, so that’s the reason why we were immediately interested in foreign countries.
“We deliver to supermarkets and we also offer a separate range to speciality shops in the US. France is also a very important market for us. At this moment, we are trying to capture more business from Germany, but also developing countries such as Poland and China,” he continued.
Mr. Maex is happy with the recognition by Trends. “We are very pleased with our growing collection of awards. For example, in 2008, our company was awarded for most energy-conscious SME in Flanders.”
